Identity Transduction Arts,
Series 1.10: boundaries
“All things lose force and become inert for the man who has never passed the boundaries of his country.”
Moon Landing
The Art of the Past
“The art of the past no longer exists as it once did. Its authority is lost. In its place there is a language of images. What matters now is who uses that language for what purpose.”
“A people or a class which is cut off from its own past is far less free to choose and to act as a people or class than one that has been able to situate itself in history.”
“When we ‘see‘ a landscape, we situate ourselves in it. If we ‘saw‘ the art of the past, we would situate ourselves in history. When we are prevented from seeing it, we are being deprived of the history which belongs to us. Who benefits from this deprivation?”
“In the end, the art of the past is being mystified because a privileged minority is striving to invent a history which can justify the role of the ruling classes, and such a justification can no longer make sense in modern terms. And so, inevitably, it mystifies.”
“This is why – and this is the only reason why – the entire art of the past has now become a political issue.”
— John Berger, Ways of Seeing
IDENTITY is defined as –
the fact of being who or what a person or thing is
and TRANSDUCTION is –
The act of conversion from one form to another
On a personal level, ‘Identity Transduction‘ is a process enabling you to cast off restrictive and outmoded standards of thought, expression and social etiquette in order to express kinetically your relationship to the immediate environment and society as a whole.
“All things lose force and become inert for the man who has never passed the boundaries of his country.”
Each ITS project (in whatever realm) is part of a larger phenomenon for which there is no technical name.
