The National Committee for West Papua (KNPB) held a rally to support the continuation of the International Lawyer for West Papua (ILWP) talk organised in London on October 12, 2011. The rally also rejected the call for the Third Papuan Congress and supported the workers’ strike in Freeport.
The rally also demanded the UN’s Decolonisation Comittee to materialise Secretary General Ban Ki-moon’s statement during the September 2011 Pacific Island Forum in Auckland, New Zealand. The Secretary said at the forum:
This issue should also be discussed at the Decolonisation Committee of the United Nations General Assembly. And when it comes again, whether you are an independent state or a non-self-governing territory or whatever, the human rights is inalienable and a fundamental principle of the United Nations.
We will do all to ensure that people in West Papua, their human rights will be respected.
The speakers at the London’s International Lawyer for West Papua (ILWP) include Jennifer Robinson, Benny Wenda, Geoffrey Robertson OC, Mark Stephens, and John Saltford.
