Vanuatu, Solomon Islands and the New Caledonian Kanak nationalist coalition FLNKS (already an MSG member) are the strongest backers. Kelly Kwalik was a West Papuan freedom fighter. He was assassinated by Indonesian police on December 16th, 2009. He waged a resistance movement from the jungles against the Indonesian military and American mining giant, Freeport McMoran. He and his devoted followers fought tanks, helicopters and machine guns with spears, machetes and arrows.

Despite glaring human rights concerns, western nations are lining up to feed the Indonesian military's (TNI) thirst for blood in West Papua. While the TNI engages in ethnic cleansing "sweeps" in remote areas of West Papua where separatists are believed to be hiding and is waging a relentless crackdown on peaceful Papuan activists, the US, Australia, UK, Germany and Brazil have all recently signed deals to supply Indonesia with more advanced weapons and technology in these brutal and illegal efforts.

British oil giant BP has signed a deal with Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono for a $12 billion expansion of the Tangguh liquefied natural gas (LNG) project in occupied West Papua. The deal is typical of West Papua’s exploitation at the hands of Indonesia and Western companies, who have pillaged the area’s resources and abused its people for decades. Papuans have the lowest standard of living in Indonesia, despite the huge amount of wealth the area creates. Human rights abuses are a common occurrence across West Papua. Indonesia stations thousands of police, army troops, Brimob paramilitary forces and Australian-funded Detachment 88 anti-terrorist police throughout the region.
